About the event
Join us in Palo Alto for a thought-provoking evening as SV Up (Silicon Valley Unplugged) explores how AI is reshaping education and how the students who will thrive in the admissions process are evolving.
The Students of Tomorrow – A panel featuring Greer Stone and Michael Treviño will discuss how AI is transforming the college application landscape, what traits top schools now prioritize, and how the very definition of an outstanding student is changing.
Greer Stone
A former attorney turned public-school teacher, Greer is a Palo Alto City Council Member and former Mayor of Palo Alto. He blends legal expertise, educational insight, and civic leadership to champion youth wellbeing and innovation in learning.
Michael Treviño
With over two decades in admissions leadership at institutions including UC Hastings, UCOP, and Harvard, Michael served as the Director of Undergraduate Admissions for the entire University of California system. His experience offers a rare, system-wide perspective on how admissions policies and practices are evolving in the AI era.
Filmed live before a small studio audience in Palo Alto, the program airs on local Comcast Cable and streams online. The station is non-profit and educationally focused as our program attracts viewers interested in cutting-edge technologies and the critical questions they raise — from human vs. AI to the future of education and learning.
The show will also feature Bryan Day, a San Francisco–based sound artist and instrument inventor who transforms salvaged electronics and mechanical components into experimental sound sculptures. His innovative instruments — some of which are installed at the Exploratorium—bridge art, science, and engineering in a way that sparks curiosity and redefines how we think about learning. Through his performances, workshops, and installations, Bryan champions a hands-on, interdisciplinary approach to creativity that mirrors the kind of innovation in education we’ll be exploring in this episode.

Bryan Day, a San Francisco–based sound artist and instrument inventor, transforms scavenged electronics and mechanical parts into experimental sound sculptures. Since the late 1990s, he has built over a hundred devices, performed worldwide, and released nearly 300 albums through his labels Public Eyesore and Eh?. His work spans noisy improvisation to drony minimalism in projects like Euphotic, Collision Stories, and Seeded Plain. Day also curates experimental music events, designs science museum exhibits at the Exploratorium, and leads workshops teaching participants to create unique instruments from repurposed materials.
