Starting on the second floor of the Hyatt Centric Mountain View, you’ll explore the historic grounds of the former Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory—where the modern tech industry first took shape.

This tour is part of the Taiwan Innovation Spotlight event for a reason: Taiwan is responsible for the majority of advanced AI chip fabrication powering today’s global technology stack, making this historic site—where the semiconductor industry was born—strikingly relevant. Bringing Taiwan’s delegation to this location creates a powerful full-circle moment between the origin of silicon innovation and its modern-day global epicenter.

Hear firsthand stories from Andris Ramans, who played a role in the site’s redevelopment and will share insights from the earliest days of the semiconductor industry. You’ll also hear from sculptors Mary White and Vickie Sowell, who will present the site’s iconic installations inspired by some of the first semiconductor devices ever built. The tour concludes with remarks from Mark Salquist, who will share how the hotel’s design and artwork reflect its location at the symbolic heart of Silicon Valley.

At the conclusion of the tour, participants are welcome to stay for the main event, Taiwan Innovation Spotlight, starting at 6 PM.
