FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Francisco, CA — February 1, 2026 — Sparknify today officially announced the launch of the 2026 Human vs. AI Film Festival, a global cinematic platform exploring one of the defining creative questions of our time: Can machines meaningfully evoke human emotion—and what does that reveal about us?

Now in its second year, the festival introduces a bold new framework. For 2026, films will no longer be categorized by genre, technique, or production method. Instead, every submission must be anchored in one of seven core human emotions: Joy, Rage, Sorrow, Contentment, Love, Aversion, or Desire.

Emotions for Human vs. AI Film Festival

Why Emotion?

As generative AI continues to transform filmmaking, the line between human-made and machine-generated cinema is increasingly blurred. Technical sophistication alone is no longer the most meaningful measure of impact. Emotion is.

Emotion is the universal language of storytelling. It is what moves audiences, shapes memory, and defines our shared humanity. By organizing the festival around emotional impact rather than how a film is made, Sparknify places the emphasis where cinema has always belonged: on what audiences feel.

This reframing shifts the conversation. Instead of asking whether a film was created by a human or by AI, the festival asks a more essential question: Did it move you?

The 2026 edition functions both as a creative compass and as a real-world Turing Test for cinema. It challenges AI-generated works to demonstrate genuine emotional resonance, while inviting traditional filmmakers to reflect on how storytelling evolves in the age of intelligent machines.

A Shared Stage for Human and AI Creators

The Human vs. AI Film Festival welcomes submissions from:

  • Traditional filmmakers

  • Generative AI creators

All works will be evaluated through the lens of emotional resonance and artistic execution, reviewed by a panel of distinguished voices spanning cinema, artificial intelligence, and human perception.

Live Premiere Event

Selected and nominated films will premiere during a live event scheduled for late September 2026 in San Francisco, where audiences will experience screenings and panel discussions on the future of cinematography and machine-driven creativity.

The evening will culminate in the presentation of the 2026 Sparknify Humanity Award and other emotion-based honors.

Submissions Now Open

Submissions for the 2026 Human vs. AI Film Festival are now officially open. Filmmakers and AI creators worldwide are invited to submit their work.

As AI reshapes the tools of creation, Sparknify invites the global creative community to help answer a deeper question:

When cinema becomes a measure of humanity, what truly defines us?
